AUSTIN - Texas Attorney General John Cornyn today announced the roundup of Bexar County parents in violation of court ordered child support. Bexar County Sheriff Ralph Lopez led the effort which began this week.
"With the help of local law enforcement, we will strictly enforce the laws that protect Texas children," said General Cornyn.
Sheriff Lopez assigned teams of deputies to arrest delinquent parents. As of 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 11, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office was reporting 32 arrests of parents in violation of court ordered child support. Bexar County authorities are being supported by Special Enforcement Operations Investigators from the Office of the Attorney General.
Non-custodial parents can avoid arrest by paying child support in full and on time. When a parent can not comply due to the loss of employment or other hardship, the parent should contact the Office of the Attorney General at 1-800-252-8014 to make other arrangements.
