CORNYN ANNOUNCES EIGHT LINER SLOT MACHINE SEIZURES

143 slot machines and $50,000 seized in Gregg County

AUSTIN - Texas Attorney General John Cornyn today announced the seizure of 143 eight liner slot machines and $50,000 in illegal wagers and prizes in Gregg County. After an investigation, the illegal slot machines and money were seized at Gold Rush #1, Gold Rush #2, Gold Rush 777, Tex-Mart, Harry's Gold Rush, Contessa Inn, Mr. C's Daquiri Garden, Waffle Shoppe, Fina Short Stop, EDR's, and Exxon Food Fast.

"The operation of eight liner slot machines violates the law. My office will work closely with local law enforcement to vigorously investigate and prosecute those who violate the law," said Attorney General Cornyn.

Search warrants were served for the seizure of the illegal gambling devices and illegal wagers and prizes this morning. Arrest warrants were also served for the owner of the machines at the Fina Short Stop, Kenneth Crenshaw, and the owner of Gold Rush #1 and Gold Rush #2, Barry Scott. They were arrested for charges ranging from gambling promotion, keeping a gambling place and possession of gambling devices and gambling paraphernalia.

Twenty-four slot machines and $13,489 in illegal wagers and prizes were seized at the Contessa Inn. Thirty-four slot machines and $5,000 in illegal wagers were seized at Gold Rush #1. Twenty-five slot machines and $751 in illegal wagers were seized at Gold Rush 777. Three slot machines and $5,203 were seized at the Fina Short Stop. Two slot machines and $153 in illegal wagers were seized at the Exxon Food Fast. Twenty-four slot machines and $16,527 in illegal wagers were seized at Gold Rush #2.

Eight slot machines and $6,141 in illegal wagers were seized at the Tex-Mart. Fourteen slot machines and $288 in illegal wagers were seized at Harry's Gold Rush. Two slot machines and $30 in illegal wagers and prizes were seized at Mr. C's Daquiri Garden. Four slot machines and $2,086 in illegal wagers and prizes were seized at the Waffle Shoppe. Three slot machines and $211 in illegal wagers and prizes were seized at EDR's.

The Attorney General's office was assisted by the Department of Public Safety Special Crimes, the City of Longview Police Department and the office of the Gregg County District Attorney.
