CORNYN ANNOUNCES NEW REGIONAL MANAGER FOR EL PASO CONSUMER PROTECTION OFFICE
AUSTIN - Texas Attorney General John Cornyn today announced the appointment of James Daross as the regional manager for the El Paso consumer protection office.
"Jim Daross has a long tenure of community involvement and is an experienced lawyer. I am glad to have him as the head of this important consumer protection office," said Attorney General Cornyn.
Daross will be responsible for overseeing the daily functions of the regional consumer protection office. This division works to protect Texas consumers and the legitimate business community by filing lawsuits under the Deceptive Trade Practices Act, other consumer protection laws and antitrust statutes. This division is best known for its work in traditional areas of consumer protection litigation: enforcing against false, misleading or deceptive advertising and marketing practices.
Daross has been a member of the firm of Krafsur Gordon Mott, P.C. where he specialized in litigation in state and federal trial courts in the areas of business, commercial real estate and construction law. In this position he also represented the Resolution Trust Corporation and the FDIC in debt resolution matters.
Daross' previous employment includes service as an associate municipal court judge for the City of El Paso and as in-house counsel for the El Paso Natural Gas Company. Daross was appointed by Governor George W. Bush as judge of the 384th Judicial District Court, El Paso County, and has served as vice-chair of the board of the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs.
He is a federal and state court approved mediator and arbitrator and a member of the commercial panel of the American Arbitration Association. His numerous civic leadership positions include membership on the board of directors for the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, president of Temple Mt. Sinai, president of the El Paso Business Committee for the Arts, Inc., and president of the Parenthood Education Association of El Paso.
Daross earned a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin and a doctor of jurisprudence with honors from the University of Texas School of Law.
