CORNYN ANNOUNCES ARREST OF CHILD SUPPORT EVADER
William "Jack" Hart arrested in Wichita, Kansas
AUSTIN - Texas Attorney General John Cornyn today announced the arrest of child support evader William "Jack" Hart, formerly of Galveston County, who owes a total of $42,393 in child support for a son in South Houston and a son in Hitchcock.
"I want to thank the public and members of the law enforcement community for helping us locate one of the worst child support evaders in Texas. We will continue working with law enforcement officials to notify dead beat parents that we are committed to finding them and to making them live up to their responsibilities, or suffer the consequences," Attorney General Cornyn said.
Hart was arrested in Wichita, Kansas, by a deputy from the Sedgewick County, Kansas, sheriff's office. Investigators in the Attorney General's child support division learned of Hart's whereabouts following an earlier domestic disturbance call investigated by the Sedgewick County sheriff's office. Hart, charged with criminal non-support of a child, is currently being held in the Galveston County Jail on two warrants, one is criminal and the other is civil, with bond totaling $14,000. Hart was in a Galveston County courtroom this morning for a bond hearing on the civil warrant. Hart faces up to two years in prison and payment of all unpaid support.
For a noncustodial parent to be placed on the child support evader Web page, there must be a court-ordered obligation with delinquent support in excess of $5,000 and an arrest warrant issued. The location of parent must be unknown and the parent has not made any payments in the last six months. The parent must not be involved in bankruptcy proceedings or receiving welfare benefits. To make information public, the custodial parent must sign a confidentiality waiver and supply a picture of the delinquent parent.
Other evaders - with estimated arrears and last known address -- include:
Jerry Don Posey owes $86,174 for two children in Canyon Lake, Texas.
Randy Wayne Gomez owes $41,881 for six children in Hereford, Texas.
