“On the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks that tragically killed nearly 3,000 innocent victims, we honor those whose lives were taken by terrorists – and express our gratitude to the first responders who selflessly labored to save innocent lives,” Attorney General Abbott said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to survivors, first responders, victims’ families, and all others who were affected by this senseless tragedy. We also express our deep gratitude to the brave service men and women who are deployed abroad and bravely standing post as they put their lives on the line in order to ensure the United States remains the world’s greatest nation.”

In addition to the wreath-laying ceremony, the State’s September 11th anniversary observation included a color guard, a bugler playing “Taps,” prayer and remarks by Gov. Perry. The ceremony honored both innocent victims who died during the terrorist attacks 10 years ago and first responders who courageously sacrificed their lives as they selflessly endeavored to protect and serve.

The Texas 9-11 Monument, which was commissioned by Gov. Perry in 2002 and unveiled on the second anniversary of the terrorist attacks, is dedicated to all Texans who died on Sept. 11, 2001 and to Texans who lost their lives during Operation Enduring Freedom. Featuring two steel girder beams that were recovered from the World Trade Center site in New York City, the Texas 9-11 Monument includes black granite plaques that detail the times of significant events that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001.
