Attorney General Greg Abbott Names Waco Resident Child Support Office Manager of the Year

WACO – Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott recognized Michele Thompson, office manager for the Child Support Division’s Waco field office, for her commitment to Texas children. Thompson, who was named “Office Manager of the Year,” received the honor Thursday at the Statewide Child Support Managers’ Meeting in San Antonio.

“Michele Thompson is a phenomenal manager whose leadership of the Child Support Division’s Waco office has made a real difference in the lives of Texas children,” Attorney General Abbott said. “Thanks to dedicated managers like Michele, the Child Support Division continues to break new collection records and earn top rankings for efficiency and effectiveness. The Child Support Division and Texas families alike benefit from Michele’s commitment to public service and excellence.”

Thompson was selected from among 87 office managers across the state based on recommendations from her peers and supervisors, with a particular focus on her willingness to go beyond her normal duties to serve Texas children.

Thompson, who joined the Office of the Attorney General in 1999, oversees the Waco child support office, which covers Bosque, Falls, Freestone, Hamilton, Hill, Limestone, McLennan and Mills counties. The office’s 32 employees are responsible for locating absent parents; establishing paternity for children born to unmarried parents; establishing, enforcing, and modifying child and medical support orders; and collecting and distributing child support payments.

Thompson was chosen to be the Child Support Division’s “Office Manager of the Year” because of her unwavering dedication and vast knowledge. Thompson is a respected leader in her office and across the state and has done an incredible job managing her team, as well as serving as interim office manager for another office.

Thompson’s colleagues praised her passion for providing young Texans the financial and medical support they need and deserve.

“When you meet Michele, you know immediately that she loves what she does and is committed to the Child Support Division mission,” said Regional Administrator Mara Friesen. “Michele’s goal every day is to show her staff how important they are to the child support program and to the families it serves. Michele is a leader that staff members want to follow because she is there working beside them every day in every way.”

The Waco child support office handles more than 22,000 child support cases and collected $48.6 million in child support for the state fiscal year that ended Aug. 31.
