Texas Attorney General Paxton Sues Publication Renewal Companies for Violating State Consumer Protection Law

AUSTIN –The Texas Attorney General’s Office today filed an enforcement action against three corporations based in Oregon for misleading Texas consumers into paying for publication subscription renewals the corporations were not authorized to sell. The State’s legal action cites the defendants for violations of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices – Consumer Protection Act (DTPA).

Texas Attorney General Paxton Sues Department of Labor Over FMLA Rule

AUSTIN – The Texas Attorney General’s Office today filed suit against the U.S. Department of Labor over the newly revised definition of “spouse” in the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), which includes a same-sex spouse if the marriage occurred in a state that recognizes such marriage. Attorney General Paxton is also advising state agencies to follow state law, not the federal rule.

Attorney General Paxton’s Office to Prosecute Two South Texas Men for Voter Fraud

BROWNSVILLE – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Criminal Prosecutions Division will prosecute Brownsville residents Jose A. Garza and Rafael Elizondo, who were indicted for possessing marked ballots without the consent of the voter, in violation of Section 86.006 of the Texas Election Code.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton Stands Up for 2nd Amendment Rights

AUSTIN – Attorney General Ken Paxton and 22 other state attorneys general are urging the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) to permanently discard a proposed ban on M855 5.56 x 45mm ammunition. On March 10, ATF shelved the proposal after an outpouring of opposition, including from the law enforcement community.

San Antonio Man Sentenced in Sex Trafficking of Minors Scheme

San Antonio, TX - A federal judge sentenced 38-year-old Marcus Deshawn Wright to two life imprisonment terms for sex trafficking of minors plus 30 years in prison for production of child pornography announced Acting United States Attorney Richard L. Durbin, Jr., Special Agent in Charge Christopher Combs of the FBI’s San Antonio Division and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Bell County Constables Conduct Child Support Roundup

TEMPLE – Bell County Pct. 3 Constable Thomas Prado and Pct. 4 Constable Edd Melton III have arrested 20 Bell County parents who violated court orders requiring them to pay child support. This week’s sweep, which started Monday, was conducted in conjunction with the Texas Attorney General’s Child Support Division. The effort focused on parents who were the subjects of arrest warrants because of their failure to pay child support.
