Medicare Advantage and prescription drug coverage open enrollment runs from October 15 to December 7 2019. Open enrollment under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) runs from November 1 to December 15, 2019.  During this time period, many consumers are searching for what their best insurance options may be. The official federal government website regarding open enrollment under the ACA is healthcare.gov, and Medicare’s website is Medicare.gov. There are legitimate third party resources that may also be able to assist in your options. Make sure to do your homework to confirm that any assistance you are seeking is legitimate.

Make sure you know what you are purchasing. If you are reviewing options for private insurance, make sure that you understand the difference between a discount plan and insurance prior to making a decision. You can confirm with the Texas Department of Insurance that your chosen insurance is a licensed provider. There are no “sales agents” for Medicare – so don’t let a so-called official representative try to sell you coverage.  Also remember not to provide information to someone who calls you saying they need your info to keep your coverage – this is usually a scam.
