Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton today affirmed officers in the frontlines of the COVID-19 fight in Harris County:

“Our men and women in law enforcement risk their lives every day as they continue to heroically serve the public, particularly during these trying times. I especially commend law enforcement officers in Houston and Harris County, where they were first told that hardened criminals would be released because they feared they could contract COVID-19 in prison and are now being told to criminalize anyone caught without wearing a mask.”

“While health and safety guidelines are important to slow the spread of COVID-19, officers should use discretion as they carry out the functions of their sworn duty and focus on dangerous criminals who pose a serious risk to their community.”
