Attorney General Ken Paxton sued the City of Austin today to bring the city into compliance with the State’s Open Carry laws. On July 5, 2016, the Attorney General gave Austin final notice to comply with the law, but Austin refused. Today’s lawsuit requires Austin to allow citizens to lawfully carry firearms in Austin City Hall, as the law expressly forces it to do.

“I will always make sure that governments do not trample on the Second Amendment rights of Texans,” said Attorney General Ken Paxton, “and if they do, we will sue.”
