2023 Texas Legislative Session Update
The Texas Attorney General’s Office offers the use of its VirTra law enforcement training simulator to school resource officers, school marshals, and school guardians. This program offers an immersive training experience that helps prepare these school personnel for real-life incidents.
Note: This program in not intended to certify a person as a guardian or marshal.

Choose your role:
A commissioned Texas peace officer is one who is assigned as a school resource officer.
A School Marshal is an employee of a school district, open-enrollment charter school, private school, or public junior college and possesses a current school marshal license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
A School Guardian is an employee of a school district, open-enrollment charter school, private school, or public junior college and is trained by a DPS-certified instructor.
To qualify for this program, you must be a commissioned Texas peace officer who is assigned as a school resource officer. When submitting the form below you will be required to upload a letter from the head of your agency approving your participation.
To qualify for this program, you must be currently employed by a school district, open-enrollment charter school, private school, or public junior college. You also must possess a current school marshal license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement under Texas Occupations Code 1701.260. When submitting the form below you will be required to upload a copy of your school marshal license and a letter from the head of your school approving your participation.
To qualify for this program, you must be currently employed by a school district, open-enrollment charter school, private school, or public junior college. You also must have completed training provided by a DPS-certified instructor under Texas Government Code 411.1901. When submitting the form below you will be required to upload a copy of your school guardian training by a DPS-certified instructor and a letter from the head of your school approving your participation.
