Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton today joined U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, state Sen. Bob Hall, Rockwall County Judge David Sweet and Rowlett Mayor Todd Gottel in touring areas of North Texas damaged by the recent tornadoes and storms. The officials also received a briefing on the impact and visited with victims.
“Last week’s storms brought destruction on North Texas communities, devastating families who have lost homes and loved ones,” Attorney General Paxton said. “Today, I met people who are determined to rebuild their lives and their community, serving as a reminder of the enduring strength of the Texas spirit and our ongoing tradition of neighbor helping neighbor.”
Earlier this week, the Texas Attorney General’s Office warned Texans to be aware of the risk of scams in the wake of the disaster in four North Texas counties. Under Texas consumer protection statutes, once a disaster declaration has been issued by the Governor, it is unlawful for an individual or business to take advantage of victims of a disaster by engaging in deceptive trade practices.
